2014 Challenge Results

Our challenges projects were revealed at the May meeting. Last fall we were given three black and white fat quarters and one crayola marker.  We could add as much black and white fabric to the ones we were given, but only one additional fabric the color of our marker.  Lots of creative projects were shown.

Bev won the viewers choice with this adorable piece.

Take a few moments to see all the other creative ideas that our members came up with!

May Show and Tell

We had some Show and Tell  besides our wonderful challenges that I will share in a separate post.

Karen completed this soft book from some of the donated fabric that our guild received.  It will be very nice to donate along with a baby quilt in the future.

Joy pieced this lovely top from a bag full of 2 1/2" strips of our donated fabric.  She added the white from her stash along with her creativity!  I believe this top may be looking for someone to quilt it ;)!

Fran and Pat's cozy hand quilted contribution to show and tell.

Show And Tell

Here is a great bunch of show and tell from our last two meetings. (I just realized I hadn't posted the two items from March!) I know I am missing a few pictures as my camera battery died, but hopefully Cindy will be able to add the rest for you to see!

Sandra complete her very modern version of the "poinsettia" table runner.

I got to show off the latest offering from Highway 10 Designs - Lug Nuts!

My crayon quilt.

Dawn has been busy playing on her new APQS George. You can click the link to see what it looks like.  It is longarm machine that sits in a custom table instead of on a frame.  Looks like she has been having lots of fun!

Sherry's Hopscotch quilt.  She did a really unique quilting stitch using a modified version of the three step zig zag stitch.

Karen made some professional totes.

Karen had fun with some freehand quilting.

And a super cuddly minky backed quilt for a special girl.

Gloria complete her sunflower table runner.  Those batiks look so amazing in person!

Genny did some thread sketching.

Genny completed this project with some challenge fabric from a few years back.  Has a nice modern feel to it.

Mary's elegant table runner.

Our guest Eileen showed off her "Fresh Diamonds " quilt.

Bev's "Cactus Star" Wall Hanging.

Quilting this Weekend!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our UFO day at the Watson Art Center starting at 9:00 a.m.  It is such a wonderful to snoop at other people's projects, and get a second opinion or a helping hand when you need it.  Hope to see you there!

I have been made aware of a couple of other things going on this weekend.

Thequiltshow.com is offering free viewing of the classes this weekend.  It is a great time to check out the kind of things that they offer and see if you might be interested in getting yourself a subscription.  I will be checking this out myself.

Craftsy is having a sale - 50% off all their classes!  You can buy now and watch them at your convenience.  I have purchased a few classes and have been very pleased with them.  They offer lots of different topics and it certainly is worth checking out.   The sale prices range from $14.99 - $30.99 for most of the quilting classes.  The great thing is they never expire and you can watch them at your own pace.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Meeting Reminder

Thursday March 6th is guild day!

There will not be any quilting time during the day this month.

The evening meeting will start at 7:00. Because of the storm last month we postponed our hand applique lesson.Sherry Kehler will be leading program portion of the meeting and she going to share her favorite techniques for hand applique with all of us. In order to get the most out of the evening we are going to learn by doing not just listening.  Sherry will supply the pattern for a heart and has asked that those interested bring the following supplies.
  • Two 8" squares of fabric in contrasting colors
  • Thread to match the color of your heart fabric
  • A needle and scissors
Other things to bring are:
  • Any remaining log cabin blocks that you have made
  • Show and Tell
  • a friend
See you Thursday!
