Place Mat Work Day

We had about a dozen ladies out for our work bee for Christmas place mats for Meals on Wheels.  Our initial goal was to make about 60.  It came to the attention of some of our members that the Seniors Center also delivers meals to about 15 people so a new goal was set of 75 place mats!

Through the creativity of the ladies in attendance and the generous fabric donation we received last year I am thrilled to say that we indeed will have 75 place mats to donate if not more.  They are currently in various stages of completion, so if you were unable to attend yesterday and want to lend a hand it is not too late.

We decided to pillowcase turn the majority of the place mats.  Some are turned and just need a little quilting.  Some need turning and quilting.  There will also be some that require traditional binding. Labels will also need to be added.  Karen P and Bev P were heading up this project so if you can assist please let them know.

The was a lot of fun and a lot of learning happening throughout the day.  I even donned the gloves and did a little free motion quilting on my domestic machine - turns out it is like riding a bike, I could still do it!

Thanks to Genny for remembering to snap a few pictures!

  1. Sounds like it was a great day. Sorry I couldn't be there. Will be able to be quilting all day at our next meeting though as the doors to the FireHall will be open all day for those who want to join us and quilt before the meeting in the evening.
