More Quilt Show Pics

I finally have a few days off of work and have been able to do some more quilting.  What a pleasure to sit in front of the machine again.  I have a few more pictures from the quilt show to post.  I cannot remember all the titles of the quilts though and some of the pictures are not the clearest because they were just taken with my phone but here goes.  My memory is definitely going because I can't even remember who made each of these quilts but what talent our members have!!!  The beauty and variety of quilts was amazing!

Autumn Splendor Quilt Show 2013

I can hardly believe that I am saying this but the Crocus Quilters Guild Quilt Show 2013 is in the history books.  For anyone that wanted to go but didn't, you missed viewing almost 200 beautiful masterpieces.

It was a full day of preparation and set-up on Friday.  The Watson Arts Centre was a flurry of activity starting at 9 am.  The quilt racks were hung, vendors moved in and the quilts were arranged in the perfect array throughout the afternoon.

Doors opened at 10 am on Saturday, it was a beautiful sunny day and everyone was in high spirits.

On Sunday morning we saw our first guests arrive right as we opened the doors at 10 am.

It didn't take long to dismantle the display once the doors closed for the last time at 4 pm.

Vendors included:

• Michele of Mami's Country Quilts from Duck Lake, SK

Winners Circle:

• Quilt Raffle:  Carla Steiner, Dauphin, MB

The Tea Room was an awesome addition to the show, the food was delicious and the conversation was great.

Challenge Display Corner received a lot of interest

The Quilt Show was an absolutely fantastic success.  It was a lot of work but we had rave reviews from all who came through.  It was amazing to the see the variety of layouts that people came up with for the Alternate Routes pattern that members of the guild did from a pattern created by Highway 10 Designs.  The soup, bun, vegetables, and coffee lunch was also a huge success and everyone enjoyed the variety of homemade soups and then the great desserts.

 This was the quilt made by Winnie with her winning squares from the charity block for the month.

 This is the bedrunner made by Gloria Nicholson.

 This is Karen Pryce's Schoolhouse which won second place for viewer's choice.

 This is Gloria Nicholson's  Rockin Roosters which won the Viewer's Choice Award

 This is the table runner made by Pat Milburn which we will be holding a workshop for on November 16, 2013. 

 This was made by Reneta Angus

 This is made by Lori Suss and was the quilt hanging at the top of the stairs as you entered the Art Centre Building where the quilt show was held.

  

This was made by Cindy Hamilton and is her grandson Asher. Each piece is 1/4 inch in size. 

 

UFO Day!

Just a friendly reminder that there is a UFO day being held TOMORROW, October 19th at the Old Fire hall in the Watson Art Centre.  Doors open at 9:30.  Hope to see you there!

October Meeting Highlights

Our October meeting was held on Thursday Oct the 3rd.  It was wonderful to 25 faces, with some new ones mixed in.

Some highlights from the business meeting were:

October 19th will be a UFO day in the Old Fire Hall at the Watson Art Center.  9:00 a.m.

November 16th will be our Poinsettia Table runner workshop and UFO day at the Ochre River Hall - 9:30 am.

With heavy hearts it was noted that Carol Wright from Kickass Country Store passed away on Sat., Sept. 28th.  Carol and Wayne attended many of our June Windups as vendors and their store in Plumas was a popular road trip destination.  It was Carol's wish that quilters make a block in her favorite colors (teal and purple) and have a quilt made to be raffled with proceeds to further cancer research.  The blocks should be 8 1/2" unfinished with a light background.  At the end of December any blocks made can be forwarded to Winnipeg as a group collection.

Show and Tell:

Brenda finished piecing the split leaf quilt top with the fabric that was purchased a mere 4 days earlier at the show.  We are planning to donate this top to the Watson Art Center to assist in the BIG ASK fundraising campaign to raise $1.5 million dollars.  hopefully we will see completed photos of it next month.

Sandra shared her quilt-as-you go quilt she made for her nephew.

And our program for the evening was some good old fashioned basic tips about 1/4 seams, pressing and thread led by Gloria and Karen.

**I am unable to attend for both the November and December meetings, so if someone would be willing to take pictures so I can post them, or would like to try their hand at the blog, please let me know.  Blog posts are not the same without a few pictures!

September Meeting Show & Tell

Most of Thursday's meeting was spent going over the last minute details for our upcoming quilt show.  Guild members signed up for shifts during the show for the tea room, admission table, raffle ticket table etc.  If you weren't at the meeting and are able to help please contact Dawn to be added to the schedule.

This is our last push for Raffle Ticket sales.  Please consider picking up an extra or book or two to sell in the next two weeks.  Genny is the person who can help you with that.  Wouldn't it be amazing if we sold all of our tickets?

Now onto what you have been waiting for...

Mona finished up a couple of projects.  I believe this was a mystery project from a few years back.

 Mona also completed this lovely batik Sampler.

Reneta shared her cheerful Sunflower and jelly roll quilt.

Karen shared her panel revamp.  She cut is apart and pieced it back together and added a lot of detailed quilting to make it special.

This is Karen's really cool iron caddy.  It folds flat to become a pressing surface, and carrys your hot iron home safely.  Here is a link to a tutorial that is very similar. (Note: this is not the exact pattern that Karen used.)

And here is Karen's version of the Alternate Routes pattern.  I love the star in the center of her layout, and her fabrics are just gorgeous.  Another unique layout.

  Her is Dawn's "make it beautiful" piece. Can you believe this began as a skirt she picked up at Value Village?

Cheri had her very modern Hopscotch quilt.

Cheri also shared her version of the Alternate Routes pattern.  Seems everyone is coming up with their own layout!

And last my addition to the guild banner.  I tried my hand at thread painting for the first time.

Meeting this Week!

It is September 1st and that means our first meeting of the fall is only a few days away.  Karen will be a the Old Firehall from 9:00 a.m. for our Daytime UFO session.  This is a great time to finish up those last minute things for our quilt show happening in just a few weeks.

Have you made your crocus block to add to the Guild Banner?  I had almost forgotten about that little project, but since it only needs to be 4-8" in size, there is still time to complete it. Feel free to be as creative as you like, it needs to be bound.  Need some inspiration? Here are links to a few free crocus blocks I found online:
