Guild Challenge 2020: Simile

Crocus Quilter Guild  members , our May challenge is still a go!

Your challenge is to create a mini-sized quilt (or wall-hanging) 

based on a simile that you pulled from the hat.  

Be creative and use the theme to create something of your own choosing!

This is due for our May Virtual meetup.  

Please take a well lit picture (outside or near natural light is best) 

and send it to shgeertsema@gmail.com prior to the meetup.

Please make sure to include your full name, and the simile you are representing!  

We will be able to view all these wonderful makes over Zoom!

We can even vote for viewer's choice!

March 5, 2020 Guild meeting and show & tell

Another month of great show & tell.  Karen made this scrappy bargello
using a Bonnie Hunter free pattern.  (Below) In memory of a member who passed away, Karen & Bev finished this baby quilt and it will be passed one through our donation quilts.

Stephanie is excited for a granddaughter to arrive later this year, she made this adorable quilt and made some great place mats too.

Shalane showed off her cute kangaroo swap piece.

Amy has been busy and finished up quilts to be gifted to friends and family and as she said  " four years in the making but she finally finished her weekender bag and handy little pouch".

Reneta created these cute quilts, they will be gifted to some co-workers.

Can you tell she was excited to show off her cute koala she received in a swap.

Our quick and fun demo this month was by Gail, she lovingly called it the Pineeta.
a finger pincushion.  The pictures show the process.

February 6, 2020 Meeting Highlights

It was a very crisp day in Dauphin, but that didn’t stop this hearty group of Crocus Quilters from gathering for a day a stitching and visiting. The day started out early at the Firehall where a dozen ladies stopped in during the monthly sewing day.

The show and tell was FABULOUS!

 You can't see her but this is Brenda hiding behind this sweet baby quilt.

and then Reneta carried in her three big bags!  

 love the creativity and patience this girl has --- where does she find her energy?

 this is definitely a statement piece! 

 yes, there is more from Reneta!  

 Amy has a heart of gold, this Slab Block quilt is headed for Quilts of Valour. 

 and Dawn finished up the show with an art quilt she has made for a Fibre Arts Network exhibit. 

We completed the evening with a short demo by Karen P. 

Thirty of these blocks will make a very nice quilt as demonstrated below. 

We have a Quilt til you wilt day booked for Feb 22/23. 

Our next meeting is March 5. 

January 9, 2020 First meeting and party in the new year.

Happy New Year!!

For the last couple of years our guild has had a Christmas Gathering in January, 

so here are a few highlights from that evening.  We had a very brief general meeting, some show and tell, then enjoyed a fat quarter exchange and for 

those that wanted to take part a pincushion exchange, and of course we can't forget the wonderful assortment of treats and punch to enjoy.

Most often we post pictures of completed projects, but today there are a
few work in progress shows.
Beth worked on these during the day (picture below) at our monthly sew day, and wanted to show us because once they are done, she will sending them off to her family. 

Dawn showed us this gem she was working on, to demonstrate how a colorful panel
can be used to create something else wonderful.

Donna pieced this great design but was asking advice on how to quilt it.

Back to the other wonderful finished show & tells.

Shalane was asked to fix this vintage hand stitched quilt. 
She will fix one block that the fabric was tattered in and replace
the entire binding, for it was worn off.
