Quilting this Weekend!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our UFO day at the Watson Art Center starting at 9:00 a.m.  It is such a wonderful to snoop at other people's projects, and get a second opinion or a helping hand when you need it.  Hope to see you there!

I have been made aware of a couple of other things going on this weekend.

Thequiltshow.com is offering free viewing of the classes this weekend.  It is a great time to check out the kind of things that they offer and see if you might be interested in getting yourself a subscription.  I will be checking this out myself.

Craftsy is having a sale - 50% off all their classes!  You can buy now and watch them at your convenience.  I have purchased a few classes and have been very pleased with them.  They offer lots of different topics and it certainly is worth checking out.   The sale prices range from $14.99 - $30.99 for most of the quilting classes.  The great thing is they never expire and you can watch them at your own pace.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Meeting Reminder

Thursday March 6th is guild day!

There will not be any quilting time during the day this month.

The evening meeting will start at 7:00. Because of the storm last month we postponed our hand applique lesson.Sherry Kehler will be leading program portion of the meeting and she going to share her favorite techniques for hand applique with all of us. In order to get the most out of the evening we are going to learn by doing not just listening.  Sherry will supply the pattern for a heart and has asked that those interested bring the following supplies.
  • Two 8" squares of fabric in contrasting colors
  • Thread to match the color of your heart fabric
  • A needle and scissors
Other things to bring are:
  • Any remaining log cabin blocks that you have made
  • Show and Tell
  • a friend
See you Thursday!

Borders

I came across this interesting post on the "From my Carolina Home" on the topic of attaching borders to a quilt top.  Thought many of you would be interested to read it too.  A little measuring goes a long way!

Bad Weather!

We were sewing happily away this afternoon, when we were informed how bad the weather had gotten.  School buses were cancelled for the return trip and the west wind is only supposed to pick up this evening. We decided it is best that we cancel the meeting scheduled for tonight.  We didn't want our out of town ladies out on the roads! Sherry will hold her hand appliqué demonstration until next month.

Stay warm!

Meeting Reminder

Thursday February 6th is guild day!

We have a slight change of venue.  The Old Firehall is being used for an Art Exhibition, so our UFO day and evening meeting will both be taking place in the Watson Room.  Be sure to enter through the front doors of the of the Art Center.

Karen will have the room open at 9:00 for our daytime UFO time.  If you are available please come and join us.  I know am looking forward to some uninterrupted sewing time!  It is also a great time to get help/advice /a second opinion if you hit a road block on one of your projects.

The evening meeting will start at 7:00.  The program portion of the meeting will be led by Sherry Kehler.  She is very skilled in the art of hand applique and is going to share her favorite techniques with all of us.

  • a friend

UFO Days for Ochre River

Hi Everyone.  Just to let you know that the UFO days for Ochre Hall are booked for April 26 and for May 24th.  Bad news is that the Quilt Racks are already booked for the weekend that we wanted.  They are available for the weekend before or after though so we have to make a decision and let them know ASAP.   See you on Saturday at the UFO day at the Fire Hall in Dauphin.

January Show & Tell

There was a nice amount of show and tell at the January Meeting.

Winnie did an awesome job completing her poinsettia table runner.  The beads in the center were a really nice touch.

Sherry was happy to show her final Christmas project from a year long challenge at another guild.  Very cute!

Sherry's Block of the Month from a few years back.  She made more blocks than the original to increase the size.

Reneta's Peekaboo baby quilt.

Lorraine's baby quilts.

Karen put together and quilted up these Disappearing 4-patch guild blocks.  This quilt is ready to be donated.

Karen's cool black and white and red quilt.  One of five wedding quilts needed in her life this year!  The pattern is called "Twinkle" and is from the book Scrap Basket Sensations.

Cheri thought she could hide at the back of the room, but my telephoto lens captured her sewing machine cover!

And I had a few things to share.  My Stonehenge Starry Nights tree wall hanging, complete with LED lights.

The latest Highway 10 Designs Original - "Not Your Mother's Rail Fence".

And an old UFO with a snow dyed backing.

There is a UFO day this Saturday January 18th in the Old Firehall.  A great time to work on those UFOs that are hanging around, or start something new.  Hope to see you there!
